The Prophet - Kahlil Gibran - [Giving]

Speak to us of Giving

You Give but little when you give of your possessions.
It is when you give of yourself that you truly give.

There are those who give little of the much which they have, and they give it for recognition and their hidden desire makes their gifts unwholesome.

And there are those who have little and give it all.
These are the believers in life and the bounty of life, and their coffer is never empty.

There are those who give with joy, and that joy is their reward.
And there are those who give with pain, and that pain is their baptism.

And there are those who give and know not pain in giving, nor do they seek joy, nor give with mindfulness of virtue.
Through the hands of such as these God speaks, and from behind their eyes He smiles upon earth.

It is well to give when asked, but it is better to give unasked, through understanding.

All you shall have some day will be given; therefore give now, that the season of giving may be yours and not your inheritors.

You often say, "I would give, but only to the deserving."
The trees in your orchard say not so, nor the flocks in your pasture.
They give that they may live, for to withhold is to perish.

See first that you yourself deserve to be a giver, and an instrument of giving.
For in truth it is life that gives unto life. While you, who deem yourself a giver, are but a witness.

Nature Boy

There was a boy...
A very strange enchanted boy.
They say he wandered very far, very far
Over land and sea,
A little shy and sad of eye
But very wise was he.
And then one day,
A magic day, he passed my way.
And while we spoke of many things,
Fools and kings,
This he said to me,
"The greatest thing you'll ever learn
Is just to love and be loved in return."

"The greatest thing you'll ever learn
Is just to love and be loved in return."

Big Fish

WILL: "In telling the story of my father’s life, it’s impossible to separate the fact from the fiction, the man from the myth. The best I can do is to tell it the way he told me. It doesn’t always make sense, and most of it never happened. But that’s what kind of story this is. ..............
........

That was my father’s final joke I guess. A man tells his stories so many times that he becomes the stories. They live on after him.
And in that way, he becomes immortal. "

The Power of Questioning?!

Your mental computer is always ready to serve you, and whatever question you give it, it will surely come up with an answer.
If you ask a lousy question like "why do i keep screwing up?" you'll get a lousy answer.
On the other hand, when you ask as a much more useful question such as "how can i use this?" it automatically leads you in the direction of solutions.
New answers come from new questions.
The power of asking brilliant questions is illustrated by my good friend W. Mitchell.
After an accident in which his entire body was burned and he lost the use of his legs, he refused to feel sorry for himself.
"what i still have?" he asked.
"what am i capable of now, even more than before? Because of this incident, what will i be able to contribute to others?"
In the hospital he met a nurse named Annie and was instantly attracted to her. With his body burned beyond recognition and paralyzed from the waist down, he had the remarkable audacity to ask himself, "How could i get a date with her". Soon they were married.
If the possibility of failure or rejection were not a consideration, what questions could you be asking yourself right now?

I Feel Pretty - West Side Story :)

Have you met my good friend Maria
The craziest girl on the block?
You'll know her the minute you see her
She's the one who is in an advanced state of shock
She thinks she's in love
She thinks she's in Spain
She isn't in love
She's merely insane
It must be the heat
Or some rare disease
Or too much to eat
Or maybe it's fleas
Keep away from her
Send for Chino
This is not the Maria we know
Modest and pure
Polite and refined
Well-bred and mature
And out of her mind!

my favorite part from the song!! :)

Desperate Housewives (a conversation i enjoyed)!

[While Suzan and Eddie were stuck in a room]

Suzan: i gotta go out...i'm supposed to be meeting the moving company!.....................what?!
Eddie: keep talking about how you're going to move away and be with Jakson! I hear stupidity makes time go faster!
Suzan: So now, me wanting to be with the man i love is stupid?!
Eddie: and needy, and pathetic and kinda hilarious! but there's one thing that's not Mayer...that's unexpected!
Suzan: what you're getting at?!
Eddie: have you ever in your life been without a man?!
Suzan: of course i have!
Eddie: when?
Suzan: i don't know, i'm not sure!

[Eddie gets up and grabs a big sketch]

Suzan: what you're doing?!
Eddie: making a calendar!
Suzan: Eddie!!!
Eddie: Oh, come on, we've got nothing but time...and i assume you don't want to make out, so....first boyfriend?!
Suzan: Todd Schiffer...i was 14...
Eddie: and why did you and hot Toddy break up?!
Suzan: he dumped me during math class...
Eddie: and how long did it take you to start dating somebody else?!
Suzan: this is a stupid exercise! i refuse to....
Eddie: when was it?!
Suzan: lunch...it was lunch...

[after listing all]

Eddie: i think we forgot one..ah...didn't you date somebody after you stole Carl away from me?!
Suzan: Ron, Doctor Ron...are we done?!
Eddie: yup...here it is...the history of your love life! proof that you can't be happy without a man!
Suzan: this is not proof of anything!
Eddie: 7 boy friends through high school and college...only 41 days single! what does that tell you?!
Suzan: my grade sucked!!
Eddie: it's a cry for help Mayer! and it doesn't get much better under the many decades of your adulthood!
Suzan: hey...i was single for several months after Carl and after Mike..
Eddie: but that wasn't of your choosing...they dumped you!....i know...it's hard to look in the mirror...
Suzan: have you ever looked in your mirror Eddie?! you're famous for the number of men you've conquered!
Eddie: Thank you..
Suzan: it's not a compliment you tramp! Ok...I'm not going to take relationship tips from a woman who has hooked up with...what is it?!...over a thousand men!
Eddie: Ok, that's true i enjoyed the 80's, but the difference is...i go after men because i want them...you go after them because you need them!
Suzan: that's not much of a distinction!
Eddie: yes it is!!...you have holes in your heart that can only be filled by a pair of trousers!...face it Mayer, you're weak!

(that was from the last episode i saw from season 5)

Fools like me - Lisa Loeb

Everybody go
The party's over
I want to be alone in my head
In my bed tonight
You never show

You must really love her
You think I don't know
But I do, yeah it's true
I think over is over

I'm right back where I started
(when it comes to wanting you)
I can't have what I wanted

But I did, I can
I was, I am
Only human, living, dying
Just like any fool who ever breathed
If love is blind
If love's a drug
It always is
It always was and
Love was surely made for fools like me

I know where I'm going
I'm tripping I'm sliding around
That's ok
At least I'm excited
It wasn't how I planned it
(wasn't how I planned it
Feet are where I landed
At least I understand it now)
My feet are where I landed
(feet are staying on the ground)

But I did, I can
I was, I am
Only human, living, dying
Just like any fool who ever breathed
If love is blind
If love's a drug
It always is
It always was and
Love was surely made for fools like me

Fools like me
Fools like me

I did, I can
I was, I am
Only human, living, dying
Just like any fool who ever breathed

Maybe it's the sanest thing
Or just the sweetest kind of dream
But love was surely made for fools
(Love was surely made for fools)
Love was surely made for fools
(Love was surely made for fools)
Love was surely made for fools like me

Kids contemplate marriage!... (Copied)

By: Salma Rumman

How would you make your marriage work?
Tell your wife that she looks pretty, even if she looks like a truck.
Ricky, age 10

How can a stranger tell if two people are married?
You might have to guess, based on whether they seem to be yelling at the same kids.
Derrick, age 8

What do you think your mom and dad have in common?
Both don’t want any more kids.
Lori, age 8

What do most people do on a date?
Dates are for having fun, and people should use them to get to know each other. Even boys have something to say if you listen long enough.
Lynnette, age 8 (isn’t she a treasure?)

On the first date, they just tell each other lies and that usually gets them interested enough to go for a second date.
Martin, age 10

What would you do on a first date that was turning sour?
I’d run home and play dead. The next day I would call all the newspapers and make sure they wrote about me in all the dead columns.
Craig, age 9

When is it okay to kiss someone?
When they’re rich.
Pam, age 7

The law says you have to be eighteen, so I wouldn’t want to mess with that.
Curt, age 7

The rule goes like this: If you kiss someone, then you should marry them and have kids with them. It’s the right thing to do.
Howard, age 8

What is the right age to get married?
Twenty-three is the best age because you know the person FOREVER by then.
Camille, age 10

No age is good to get married at. You got to be a fool to get married.
Freddie, age 6 (very wise for his age)

Is it better to be single or married?
I don’t know which is better, but I’ll tell you one thing. I’m never going to have sex with my wife. I don’t want to be all grossed out.
Theodore, age 8

It’s better for girls to be single but not for boys. Boys need someone to clean up after them.
Anita, age 9 (bless you child)

How do you decide whom to marry?
You got to find somebody who likes the same stuff. Like, if you like sports, she should like it that you like sports, and she should keep the chips and dip coming.
Alan, age 10

No person really decides before they grow up who they’re going to marry. God decides it all way before, and you get to find out later who you’re stuck with.
Kristen, age 10

I'll be seeing you - Billie Holiday

I'll be seeing you
In all the old familiar places
That this heart of mine embraces
All day through

In that small cafe
The park across the way
The children's carousel
The chestnut trees
The wishing well

I'll be seeing you
In every lovely summer's day
In every thing that's light and gay
I'll always think of you that way

I'll find you
In the morning sun
And when the night is new
I'll be looking at the moon
But I'll be seeing you :)

Quote of the day -06-

Buddha 1000 Arms

(if you're not reading the bunch of lines below...at least make sure to watch the video...that's a breathtaking performance)

Guanyin and the Thousand Arms

One Buddhist legend presents Guan Yin as vowing to never rest until she had freed all sentient beings from samsara, reincarnation. Despite strenuous effort, she realized that still many unhappy beings were yet to be saved. After struggling to comprehend the needs of so many, her head split into eleven pieces. Amitabha Buddha, seeing her plight, gave her eleven heads with which to hear the cries of the suffering. Upon hearing these cries and comprehending them, Avalokitesvara attempted to reach out to all those who needed aid, but found that her two arms shattered into pieces. Once more, Amitabha came to her aid and appointed her a thousand arms with which to aid the many. Many Himalayan versions of the tale include eight arms with which Avalokitesvara skillfully upholds the Dharma, each possessing its own particular implement, while more Chinese-specific versions give varying accounts of this number.

Guan Yin is an extremely popular Goddess in Chinese folk belief and is worshiped in Chinese communities throughout East and South East Asia. Guan Yin is revered in the general Chinese population due to her unconditional love, compassion and mercy. She is generally regarded by many as the protector of women and children. By this association she is also seen as a fertility goddess capable of granting children. She is also seen as the champion of the unfortunate, the sick, the disabled, the poor, and those in trouble.

Cannonball - Damien Rice

Still a little bit of your taste in my mouth
Still a little bit of you laced with my doubt
Still a little hard to say...what's going on

Still a little bit of your ghost...your witness
Still a little bit of your face I haven't kissed
You step a little closer to me
So close I can't see what's going on

Stones taught me to fly
Love taught me to lie
Life taught me to die
So it's not hard to fall
When you float like a cannonball

Still a little bit of your song in my ear
Still a little bit of your words I long to hear
You step a little closer each day
Still I can't say what's going on

Stones taught me to fly
Love taught me to lie
Life taught me to die
So it's not hard to fall
When you float like a cannon

Stones taught me to fly
Love taught me to cry
So come on courage!
Teach me to be shy
Cause it's not hard to fall
And I don't wanna scare her
It's not hard to fall
And I don't wanna lose
It's not hard to grow
When you know that you just...don't know...don't know

Atonement

"Dearest Cecilia, the story can resume. The one I had been planning on that evening walk. I can become again the man who once crossed the surrey park at dusk, in my best suit, swaggering on the promise of life. The man who, with the clarity of passion, made love to you in the library. The story can resume. I will return. Find you, love you, marry you and live without shame. "

Paulo Coelho <3

"I think that perhaps we always fall in love the very first time we see the man of our dreams, even though, at the time, reason may be telling otherwise, and we may fight against that instinct, hoping against hope that we won't win, until there comes a point when we allow ourselves to be vanquished by our feelings..."

"I think that when we look for love courageously, it reveals itself, and we wind up attracting even more love. If one person really wants us, everyone does. But if we're alone, we become even more alone. Life is strange."

"But there is suffering in life, and there are defeats. No one can avoid them. But it's better to lose some of the battles in the struggles for your dreams than to be defeated without ever knowing what you're fighting for."

"The great problem with poisoning by Bitterness was that the passions - hatred, love, despair, enthusiasm, curiosity - also ceased to manifest themselves. After a while, the embittered person felt no desire at all. They lacked the will either to live or to die, that was the problem."

Broken [Seether & Amy Lee]

I wanted you to know I love the way you laugh
I wanna hold you high and steal your pain away
I keep your photograph, I know it serves me well
I wanna hold you high and steal your pain

Cause I'm broken when I'm open
And I don't feel like I am strong enough
Cause I'm broken when I'm lonesome
And I don't feel right when you're gone away

The worst is over now and we can breathe again
I wanna hold you high, you steal my pain away
There's so much left to learn, and no one left to fight
I wanna hold you high and steal your pain

Cause I'm broken when I'm open
And I don't feel like I am strong enough
Cause I'm broken when I'm lonesome
And I don't feel right when you're gone away
